"TERROIR OF CINEMA"
We speak often of “terroir” in the the wine countries of the world. Terroir is what gives a wine its unique quality that links it to a particular place with a particular set of climatic, geological and atmospheric influences.
"The Terroir of Cinema" is our term that expresses our feelings about the deep roots that give us our unique attributes, tastes and cultural distinctions. Film, like wine and cuisine, reflects the roots of the filmmakers and subjects they focus on... A Cultural Terroir if you will, that arises from our roots.
In these times, these distinctions cut both ways; at this Festival we choose to celebrate our differences rather than fear them. Cinema, and the other arts (especially the culinary arts and music) awaken us to cultural diversity and lead us to a richer and deeper understanding of what it means to be human.
