From Rags to Riches....
John James Audubon (1785 – 1851) was a Franco-American ornithologist, naturalist, and painter. The film follows Aubudon’s life from Haiti, to France, to the United States where he began the study of natural history and drawing and painting birds. He painted, catalogued, and described the birds of North America and after many trials and tribulations, published
Birds of America. The book includes 435 hand painted, life-sized portraits of every bird then known in the United States.
The original edition bought by queens
and kings of Europe and beyond, is
often regarded as the greatest picture
book ever produced.
The National Audubon Society was
incorporated and named in his honor
in 1905.
Drawn from Nature is directed by Lawrence Hott and
produced by Hott and Diane Garey.
